A date can mean something different to each person in a family. There is no single way you have to mark it.
Ask, rather than assume
Talk about what each person might want, including children. Some may want company or a shared activity; others may prefer a quieter day.
Keep plans flexible
Choose only what feels manageable. It is all right to change your mind, leave an event early, or decide not to make a special plan.
Choose a way to remember
If it feels right, share a favourite memory, look at a photograph, or spend time somewhere meaningful. Remembering does not need to be public.
Offer care without pressure
If you are supporting someone else, acknowledge the date gently and let them decide whether to respond. Ask what they would find helpful.
